Navigating Self Publishing

So, as you can tell by the title of this blog entry, we’re entering a new chapter soon. To say I’m nervous is an epic understatement. To be honest, when I first was looking into this, I didn’t even know where to start, and the scary part about self publishing is that no one is there to guide you along. You are all on your own.
My Dear Bella, my fiction book, is still in the querying process, and at this point, I am going to leave it in that space to continue working toward traditional publishing. But, with Serenity in His Arms, my women’s devotional, I am exploring potentially self publishing. If it goes well, maybe I will do the same for My Dear Bella.
Serenity in His Arms has been my passion project for the last few years. It’s a women’s devotional I have pieced together through the different seasons of my life with conversations I’ve had with God, and reflections on my own relationship with Jesus. If I’m honest, the main reason I am starting the process of self publishing is I want this book in people’s hands. I have had so many people ask me to read Serenity in His Arms, and people who want to have a copy, and I want to be able to have that for people.
If I am completely honest, I was nervous about self publishing because in the writing community the benefits of self publishing, versus traditional publishing is a big debate. So as I start to learn more about self publishing, and my experience with it, I want to be able to share that here with all of you. It’s so hard to find positive outlooks on the publishing process. I have read article after article, and done so much research, and what I read 90% of the time about being published in any form is that it’s impossible, or not worth trying, or that it will take more time than it’ll ever be worth.
I’m tired of reading all the negativity about it, and I’m tired of letting my mind spiral about how long the process is going to take for me. Instead, I am going to take matters into my own hands, and I’m going to share what I learn with all of you along the way in as positive and informative a way as possible.
Right now, I am working on the edits, and reaching out to an editor I know to get the final draft of Serenity in His Arms completed. This month I also plan on getting cover and page designs finalized, and figuring out the physical printing process. So, next month’s issue, I hope to have more news for you on how all of that has gone! Things are going to move fast, and I’m excited to get the book into your hands soon, finally!
To all of you, I challenge you to look over your goals from the beginning of the year, and reevaluate what you need to do to make those goals happen? I realized I needed to take action in a new way, and maybe you need to do the same to reach your goals you have for 2026!
